QAFCO, or Qatar Fertiliser Company, is a leading producer of ammonia and urea, established in 1969 as a joint venture between the Government of Qatar and foreign shareholders. It is fully owned by Industries Qatar and operates six plants with a significant annual production capacity of 3.8 million metric tons of ammonia and 5.6 million metric tons of urea. QAFCO is recognized as the world's largest single-site producer and exporter of urea, contributing approximately 14-15% of the global supply. The company produces ammonia primarily for internal use in urea production, while urea is available in prilled or granular forms, mainly used as a nitrogen-release fertilizer.
